News Release: 2016 Race Plans Unveiled

Labrador City, NL, May 1, 2015 – Cain’s Quest Inc. today announced the proposed route for the 2016 race, as well as its intentions to offer a new trail class option for recreational teams.

The 2016 route will have racers leave the start line in Labrador West on March 5 and head north to Nain. From there, they will travel to the south coast before making their way back to the finish line in  Labrador West through central Labrador, nearly completing a full Labrador circuit.

“While many of the checkpoints have not been determined, we estimate the route to be approximately 3,000 kilometres,” said Glenn Emberley, chair of Cain’s Quest Inc. “It is anticipated that racers will arrive  back in Labrador West after five or six days of grueling back country racing.”

Twenty-two teams are already on the roster. Each signed up before March 31 in hopes of capturing the early bird prize of a free registration worth $6,500 plus taxes. The lucky winners, drawn on April 2, were  veteran racers Clarence Nui and Marcel (Pokue) Nui of Team #98 Nui Boys from Natuashish, NL.

“We hope to have anywhere from 30 to 40 teams registered before final registration closes on November 30, 2015,” said Glenn.

Cain’s Quest is also adding an exciting trail class option in 2016. If there is enough interest, the recreational run would start in Labrador West but depart a day later on March 6. The route will have teams travel through Labrador’s interior to Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Although they will experience wilderness racing, it is non-competitive and much shorter.

“We are thrilled about adding a new dimension to Cain’s Quest,” said Glenn. “It will give riders a small taste of the race, without the pressure of long-distance endurance riding.”

Cain’s Quest remains Canada’s longest and world’s toughest snowmobile endurance race. It is an incredible off-trail riding adventure where teams of two battle in an all-out race through deep snow and thick wooded areas in some of the most remote parts of Labrador. The race is managed by Cain’s Quest Inc., a volunteer-run, non-profit organization.
